A soprano of “ethereal delicacy and radiance” (Opera Magazine), Emily Vine (Sister Constance) read music at the University of Bristol, before graduating with Distinction from Royal Academy Opera where she studied with Elizabeth Ritchie, and was a soloist for the celebrated Bach Cantata series.
She has performed and covered major roles for English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera and Grange Festival Opera. Some favourites include La Fée (Cendrillon), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Lucia (The Rape of Lucretia), Anne Trulove, (The Rake’s Progress), and Fido (Paul Bunyan), for which she was awarded the Basil A Turner Prize by British Youth Opera. Emily is also in increasing demand as an artist in contemporary repertoire, having performed Maria Bertram (Mansfield Park) by Jonathan Dove for Grange Festival Opera, The Stranger in George Benjamin’s two-woman opera Into the little hill for Shadwell Opera and the Royal Ballet & Opera conductor’s programme, Miss Shlessen (cover) Satyagraha by Philip Glass for English National Opera and, for Scottish Opera, the world premier of Lliam Paterson’s The Eighth Door.
Concert highlights include Mozart’s Requiem at the Royal Albert Hall, an opera gala with Laurence Cummings for the London Handel Festival, and a riotous performance of Orpheus in the Underworld at St. John’s, Smith Square with Simon Butteriss, Opera Danube and the Orpheus Sinfonia.
In recent years, Emily has enjoyed making a foray into the world of Gilbert &Sullivan, having sung all of the major soprano roles with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company at the International Festival in Buxton. Emily lives in Somerset with her operatic husband and their two (noisy) children.
