Georgia Mae Bishop is a mezzo-soprano from Jersey, Channel Islands praised by Opera Magazine as ‘a performer with a strong vocal personality and stage presence’. She graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama Opera school with distinction following initial studies at Trinity Laban, was the winner of the inaugural Mastersingers Wagner Competition, an Emerging Artist on the Institute of Young Dramatic Voices, and an Opera Awards Bursary recipient. Recent highlights include Third Lady in The Magic Flue with West Green House Opera, soloist in RE-WIRE with Birmingham Opera Company, Alto soloist in George Walker’s Mass with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Ulrica in Un Ballo in Maschera for Opera Holland Park, Il Pastore in Orfeo for Garsington Opera, Flosshilde in RhineGold for Birmingham Opera Company, cover Erda in Das Rheingold and Queen in Iolanthe for English National Opera and cover Dame Hannah in Ruddigore for Opera North.
Passionate about collaborative story telling in opera, Georgia was Creative Director and Librettist for Held in the Tide, a new co-created opera (music by Charlotte Marlow) commissioned by ArtHouse Jersey at the Jersey Opera House in March, her scripted cabaret show Witches, Britches and B*tches received rave reviews at Brighton Fringe, and she was resident with composer Charlotte Marlow in Anita’s Room at Brighton Dome developing their collaborative storytelling in opera practice. For Saffron Opera Group, Georgia has previously sung Annina in Der Rosenkavalier and Magdalena in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
