Born in London, Cressida Sharp Sister Antoine studied at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, going on to a Classics degree and choral scholarship at Cambridge, where she trained under Tim Brown, sang with Edward Gardner, SirAndrew Davis and Sir David Willcocks, and began her career while still a student. After graduating, her work expanded onto the continent, combining opera and oratorio, and fostering a love for international singing which only continues to grow. Memorable tours range from Europe and the USA to Taiwan, Australia, South America, New Zealand and South Korea, where she won the Jury Prize in the Daegu International Competition in 2022; the Basel Competition’s Opera Prize followed, and the Final of The Mastersingers Wagner Competition 2024. In Germany she recently sang Israel in Egypt with the Freiburger Barockorchester under René Jacobs, and in Switzerland Carmina Burana at Tonhalle Zürich with the Tonhalle-Orchester under Paavo Järvi.
Recordings include Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Lili Boulanger’s Soir sur la plaine, and Handel’s Dixit Dominus at the Aldeburgh Festival. Recent operatic work includes Götterdämmerung, Parsifal, Don Carlo, Der fliegende Holländer and Les Troyens. In addition to her work as a soloist, she sings regularly with the Monteverdi Choir.
Cressida’s principal coach is Peter Selwyn; she studies with Elizabeth Ritchie, and is also coached by Dame Anne Evans. Over the next few seasons she is looking forward to her first orchestral Wesendonck Lieder, her second Parsifal, a return to Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and her first Mahler Symphony No. 2, the Resurrection.
