British soprano Kirsty Taylor-Stokes (Sister Gertrude) is a graduate of The Royal Academy of Music. She made her professional debut as The Cockerel in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen for Glyndebourne Opera under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski, and has been described by Opera Now as “a really classy full-bodied voice …. who sings with spine-tingling delicate beauty”. Following her debut, she went on to sing several other roles and covers for Glyndebourne Festival including First Nymph in Dvořák‘s Rusalka, Female Chorus in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia, and Mimi (La bohème) for Glyndebourne’s Education programme.
Other appearances include covering Mimi (La bohème) for Grange Park Opera, Tatyana in Eugene Onegin for Garsington Opera, singing Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro for Garsington’s Alvarez programme in the United Kingdom and Corfu, and Vrenchen in Delius’ A Village Romeo & Juliette at Cadogan Hall, Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Minack Theatre, and the title role in Tosca for Opera Loki across France and the United Kingdom.
In 2024 Kirsty returned to one of her signature roles singing the title role of Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s masterpiece Madama Butterfly at St John’s Smith Square with the London City Philharmonic. Most recently Kirsty made an exhilarating role debut taking on Strauss’ extraordinary heroine Salome for Regents Opera, marking an exciting move into more dramatic repertoire and hailed by the Guardian as “the production’s finest asset…. equal to Strauss’ fiendish writing a lush soprano with thrilling low notes”.
In concert Kirsty has a wide ranging repertoire which includes Arnes’s Magnificat, Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 & Strauss’ Vier Letzte Leider.
